Ferrari will join the likes of Red Bull and Mercedes in the world of competitive yacht sailing under the leadership of veteran Italian yacht racer Giovanni Soldini, who recently concluded an 11-year stint working with Maserati.
Both Mercedes (via INEOS TEAM UK) and Red Bull have already been contributing their manufacturing and race expertise to competitions such as the America’s Cup. However, it’s unclear where Ferrari will be racing and the kind of yacht craft it’ll produce.
What is clear is that Ferrari won’t be able to transfer any technology developed in its yachting venture back to its Formula1 team, following Technical Directive TD45 that was introduced by the FIA in the middle of 2023.
“I am thrilled to start this new adventure with Ferrari,” confirmed Giovanni Soldini in the same statement.
“We are working on an important and cutting-edge project with an amazing technological potential that brings together different worlds and skills of the highest level.”
“We are about to embark on an exciting journey that will expand our racing soul,” said John Elkann, Chairman of Ferrari, in a statement.
“With this new competitive challenge, motivated by our innovative capacity and commitment to sustainability, we will push beyond current boundaries. We are happy to be able to count on Giovanni, who is extraordinary in terms of experience, determination and team spirit.”
It’s an exciting new frontier for the Prancing Horse, and one that we’ll be keeping a close eye on.
