Apple has finally dropped a new look at its upcoming F1 movie, called F1, and if you have a need for speed we think youâre in for a hell of a ride.
The movie is dropping in cinemas on June 25, 2025, is directed by Top Gun: Maverckâs Joseph Kosinski, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, and stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, and Javier Bardem â as well as a number of familiar faces from the sport itself.
Lewis Hamilton is acting as a producer on the film, and with some quick shots of a number of team principles (including fan favourite Guenther Steiner), itâs clear F1 (the sport) is putting its all into the success of F1 (the movie).
Our First Look at The F1 Movie
Despite the movie being filmed onsite at recent race days, including the emotional British Grand Prix which ran over the weekend, as well as this yearsâ Silverstone, Las Vegas Strip Circuit, and Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, the F1 movie isnât a documentary.
Rather, the movie will focus on Pittâs Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver brought back in for one last big score at the fictional APXGP team.
Pitt confirmed to Sky Sports last year that Hayes was a star driver in the â90s that had a horrible crash and exited the sport. When heâs contacted by his friend and the owner of APXGP, played by Javier Bardem, the filmâs events are set in motion.
âTheyâre a last place team, theyâre 21-22 on the grid, theyâve never scored a point. But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as a kind of Hail Mary and hijinks ensure,â Pitt said.
In the teaser trailer above, Hayes is seen pushing Condonâs so-far-unnamed character to rework APXGPâs car âfor combatâ, instilling that the movie will be focusing on the reality of building and designing a winning car â something that has been seen in real-time by viewers of Netflixâs hit series Drive to Survive, and something that the trailer delivers on.
Much of the trailerâs 90-second runtime, however, is dedicated to the real stars of the show: the high-octane vehicles themselves, with quick shots cut together to give viewers a sense of the speed felt on track.
Much like Tom Cruiseâs famously on-hands approach to stunts in Top Gun: Maverick (and, well, a lot of his movies actually), Pitt has been behind the wheel on track during filming and has impressed some of his professional driver costars, including seven-time F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton has been integral getting the film off the ground, acting as a producer and involving his own Dawn Apollo Filmâs company, and said it has been âmassively exciting to see it all coming together.â
âWe want everyone to love it and to really feel that we encapsulate what the essence of this sport is all about â thatâs our goal and I hope we can do you proud,â Hamilton said.
âIâve seen all the footage of camera positions, and Iâve spent time with Joe (Kosinski) trying to make sure weâve got the best positions.â
Lewis went on to note that Kosinskiâs work on Top Gun: Maverick could give an indication of the kinds of scenes weâll be seeing in F1: just replace the aerial dogfights with near misses on the track.
On working with Pitt, Hamilton said he was impressed by the actorâs understanding of the sport and its nuances.
âWe did a day together at a track in LA. For someone that hasnât raced, heâs definitely already got a keen eye. He loves watching MotoGP, so heâs always been a racing enthusiast,â Hamilton said. âHe already had a knack for the lines and he was fully, fully on it, which was good to see.â
